The Master’s Book

A word for those who create,
who make beauty by hand

The Master’s Book

Instead of a preface

We live in an age of great showcases.

Platforms and marketplaces promise convenience and take away the name. They put masters in a single row, compare them by price, and teach people to see beauty as merchandise.

Under this pressure, workshops close. Those who came to the craft for love leave it. Creation becomes a conveyor belt, and meaning becomes a number.

We create with flowers and teach thousands of people in many countries to do the same. And we see that the creative community needs something to lean on. Not one more showcase, but ground to stand on.

So we have written down what we believe. These are not rules imposed by anyone, but the experience of masters, told in simple words.

Take from it whatever speaks to you.

This is our word.

Prologue

In the Beginning

  1. In the beginning was the flower, and the flower was perfect without us.

  2. We did not create it.We only gather what the earth has given, and give it a voice.

  3. So the first rule of the master is care for all that lives.

  4. For a bouquet is not a thing.A bouquet is a word spoken without words: “I remember,” “I love you,” “forgive me,” “farewell.”

  5. Whoever gathers flowers holds the feelings of others in their hands.Hold them gently.

The Master’s Book03

Book One

Of the Hand and the Heart

  1. Learn from the masters, but seek your own signature.Do not repeat what is another’s until you have found what is yours.

  2. Your style is your name.Guard it as a family guards its name.

  3. Do not fear imperfection: nothing living is symmetrical.

  4. Every day, make at least one thing for yourself alone, with no order and no price. So the fire will not go out.

  5. Beauty made without soul wilts before the flowers do.

The Master’s Book04

Book Two

Of the Master’s Time

  1. A master who drowns in small things ceases to be a master.

  2. Give to the machine what belongs to the machine: the accounts, the messages, the repetition.Keep for yourself what belongs to the human: the vision, the hand and the word.

  3. The master’s time is the most precious thing in the workshop.Do not spend it on what another can do.

  4. Rest, for a tired hand cannot see color.

The Master’s Book05

Book Three

Of the One Who Comes to You

  1. Listen more than you speak.Behind a request for “something tender” there is always a story. Learn it.

  2. Promise only what you can keep. What you show is what you give.

  3. Do not judge a person by their purse.A small bouquet made with love weighs more than a large one.

  4. Remember those who came to you, even once.Their celebrations are your celebrations.

  5. One who returns to you is the finest reward and the truest word about you.

The Master’s Book06

Book Four

Of Price

  1. Do not sell your work for less than it is worth. For in doing so you cheapen the work of every master.

  2. Yet do not ask more for your name than you give in your work.

  3. Know what each piece costs you.A master who does not count works for someone else.

  4. An honest price is respect for yourself and for the one who came to you.

The Master’s Book07

Book Five

Of Freedom

  1. Do not give your name to those who put masters in a single row and compare them by price alone.

  2. For whoever sells through other hands will one day learn that people were not coming to them.

  3. Build your own house; do not rent a corner in another’s market.

  4. Let people know your name, not the name of the showcase you once stood in.

  5. A master’s freedom is not in standing alone, but in standing among equals.

The Master’s Book08

Book Six

Of the Circle

  1. A master is no enemy to a master. In your own city, a rival; in another city, a brother.

  2. If you are asked for a bouquet where your hands cannot reach, point to one you trust.

  3. And others will point to you, when the time comes.

  4. Share what you know: a candle loses nothing by lighting another.

  5. Alone, masters are weak before the merchant.Together, they are stronger than any market.

The Master’s Book09

Book Seven

Of Authorship

  1. What you have created is yours.Give it a name, and keep the day it was born.

  2. Whoever created first is the source.Let everyone know where the beauty came from.

  3. Draw inspiration openly, and name those who inspired you.An honest debt does not diminish a master.

  4. Do not take what is not yours: a stolen idea brings no glory.

The Master’s Book10

Book Eight

Of Apprenticeship

  1. There is no master who was not once an apprentice.

  2. Learn all your life: from your elders, from the young, from nature and from your own mistakes.

  3. A mistake is no disgrace, but the price of skill.

  4. Whoever has learned, let them teach. So the craft outlives the master.

The Master’s Book11

Book Nine

Of the Earth and the Seasons

  1. To everything its time: to the tulip, spring; to the peony, early summer; to the dahlia, autumn.

  2. Do not argue with the season; follow it, and it will be generous to you.

  3. Do not throw away what is still alive.Someone grew every stem.

  4. The earth gives generously.Take no more than you need.

The Master’s Book12

Parable

Of the Two Masters

  1. In one city there lived two masters, and both were skilled.

  2. The first placed his name in another’s showcase. The orders multiplied, and he began to hurry, and he began to lower his price, so as to stand above the rest.

  3. The second built his house slowly. He knew the names of those who came to him, taught apprentices, and kept friendship with masters in other cities.

  4. Years passed, and the owners of the showcase changed the rules. The orders left the first, and no one remembered his name, for people remembered only the showcase.

  5. But to the second, in a hard year, returned those he knew by name. His apprentices brought their friends, and masters from other cities sent people to his door.

  6. Whoever has understood this parable has understood all the rest.

The Master’s Book13

In Sum

The Seven Words of the Master

  1. Seek your own.

  2. Give routine to the machine; keep creation for yourself.

  3. What you show is what you give.

  4. Value your work.

  5. Build your house, not a corner in another’s market.

  6. A master is a master’s brother.

  7. Learn, and teach.

The Master’s Book14

Create. Cherish. Share.

And the flowers will answer you.
