How we write and check articles
Lacy Bird is building an open floristry encyclopedia — a reference for florists, floral designers and everyone who loves flowers, in 13 languages. This page explains who stands behind the articles, what they rest on, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
Who writes
Articles are written by the Lacy Bird editorial team — a floral design studio working since 2012 and its academy. Every part of the encyclopedia has a responsible section editor from our team of working florists and teachers, named on each article. Drafts may be prepared with the help of AI writing tools; they are built on the data below, and the section editor is responsible for what is published.
- Flower meanings, seasons and occasions — Daria Shulzenko
- Flower care and vase life — Oksana Anikina
- Weddings and event floristry — Anastasia Wolf
- Floristry business — Oleg Belyakov
- Encyclopedia, journal and everything else — Sofya Veyber
What the articles rest on
- Botanical names and data — checked against GBIF and Wikidata (open CC0 / CC BY data).
- Commercial varieties — the Acanta master catalogue of named varieties, growers and origins.
- Care, vase life and handling — the working practice of the Lacy Bird studio and academy, cross-checked with our encyclopedia data.
- Meanings and traditions — described as cultural traditions, not facts; where traditions differ between countries we say so.
Dates and updates
Every article shows when it was published and last updated. Seasonal guides are refreshed before their season; data pages change when the underlying catalogue changes.
Independence
Lacy Bird also runs an academy and builds software for florists (Acanta, Bouquet Builder, Florist Circles). Where an article mentions our own products, it is because they are relevant to the topic; we do not accept payment for editorial placement.
Corrections
Found a mistake or have a better photo of a variety? Use “Suggest an edit or a photo” on any article — it opens the Encyclopedia editors circle in Florist Circles, our community of florists, where every suggestion is reviewed by the Lacy Bird team and contributors are credited. You can also write to lba@lacybird.com. We fix factual errors and note significant corrections in the article.
Reuse
The encyclopedia is open for non-commercial use with attribution — see the licence terms. Each entry has a “cite this page” box.
