Astilbe × arendsii · aka false spirea, feather flower

Astilbe forms soft, feathery plumes of tiny, densely packed blooms in white, pink, red and coral. Florists love its fluffy, cloud-like texture, which adds volume and a romantic softness to bouquets and centrepieces. It reads beautifully in both garden-style and lush wedding work. Because it is thirsty, it rewards good conditioning with a delicate, airy presence.

Conditioning

Cut stems on a slant and place immediately into deep, cool water, as astilbe wilts quickly when left dry. Condition for several hours in a cool room before arranging and keep it well hydrated throughout. Avoid letting the plumes dry out, and mist lightly if the air is warm.
