Floristry education
Floral Design Course · Lacy Bird Academy
Online floral design courses taught by working florists — the language of modern floristry, from first hand-tied bouquet to a running commercial studio.
Lacy Bird Academy is where working florists teach the craft they use every day. Founded alongside the studio in 2016, it has trained more than 12,000 florists across three continents — through structured online courses, in- person masterclasses, and permanent physical academies in Dubai, Astana, and Mexico City.
This section brings together everything the academy publishes: our full online floral design course, segmented landing pages for different levels, and the operational detail every prospective student needs before signing up.
Our flagship: the modern floral design course
If you're new to the academy, start here. Our modern floral design course is a twelve- hour online programme that teaches the design language Lacy Bird has spent 13 years developing — soft palettes, generous shapes, restraint over ornament, commercial discipline. Four modules take a complete beginner from their first hand-tied bouquet through wedding-and-event work to the business fundamentals that separate hobbyists from working florists.
Format: twelve hours of recorded video across ~40 lessons. Language: English, subtitled. Access: lifetime — buy once, come back anytime. Feedback: personal reviews on submitted work by working florists. Certificate: on completion of all modules plus final portfolio. Guarantee: money-back within 14 days.

What we teach
Our curriculum is built around four levels. Every course we publish, and every masterclass we run, ladders back to this structure.
Fundamentals. Stem preparation, conditioning that actually extends commercial vase life, foam-free construction, colour theory applied to real flowers, and the anatomy of a designed arrangement — mass, line, focal, filler.
Hand-tied bouquets. Our signature technique, built five ways — garden- style, cascading, structured, compote, and bridal. The spiral technique that lets a working florist assemble a 50-stem bouquet in under fifteen minutes.
Wedding and event work. Where the money is, and where the technique is hardest. Bridal bouquets, ceremony installations, reception centerpieces, and the production system that makes a full wedding runnable by one senior florist and one assistant.
The business of modern floristry. Pricing (the four-times rule, when it works and when it lies), sourcing, studio layout, portfolio-building, Instagram strategy for florists, and the client conversation — how to sell your design language rather than a shopping list of stems.
Who our students are
Complete beginners with no prior floristry experience. Working florists updating their style and adding modern technique to what they already know. Career changers coming from adjacent fields — event planning, interior styling, photography, wedding coordination. Studio owners using the curriculum to train their own new hires.
More than half our current cohort are career changers in their thirties and forties. The rest split roughly evenly between complete beginners and working professionals refreshing their aesthetic.
For a deeper career-oriented read, see our essay how to become a florist — the four working paths into the profession, with realistic timelines and income expectations.

In-person masterclasses
Alongside the online course we run in-person masterclasses in Dubai, Rome, Amsterdam, Bucharest, and Kuala Lumpur every year. Small groups, several days of hands-on work, finished portfolios to take home. The online course is the foundation; masterclasses build on it with hands-on installation work and portfolio photography.

Where we teach in person
- Dubai — our flagship studio at The Meydan Hotel. Same-day flower delivery across Dubai and Sharjah plus regular masterclass programming.
- Astana — permanent academy studio with year-round intensive courses in Central Asia.
