Dubai Masterclass — 12–14 April 2025

Lacy Bird touring masterclass in Dubai, UAE — 12–14 April 2025. Event page: programme, photos and materials from this edition.

12–14 April 2025 — Dubai, UAE — our home city in the Gulf — the studio, the academy and the toughest flower climate we teach in.

Spring in the home studio arrived under a wall of deep green: a heavy velvet drape hung like a doorway against the darkened concrete, and up its sides the class trained a cascade of red. Roses, scarlet gerbera and glossy red anthurium spilled from the frame, threaded through with trailing amaranthus in both crimson and acid green. It is the kind of colour pairing that could shout; here it stayed disciplined, warmed by the shafts of Dubai light coming through the tall studio windows.

The centrepiece was a tablescape rather than a bouquet. A long table was skirted in the same forest velvet and laid with an autumnal, almost Dutch-still-life abandon: green viburnum tumbling to the floor, red roses, bunches of grapes and dark aubergines nested among calla lilies, glassware and folded magenta napkins. It read as a wedding or a launch dinner caught mid-bloom, and it gave the room its anchor for three days.

Against all that drama, the smaller work went quiet and pale. Students turned out box arrangements in the academy's signature white vessels: cream and white roses, blush garden roses, pink ranunculus, hydrangea and buttery stock, held up one by one to the studio's grey wall for a portrait. The pastels felt like a deliberate breath between the bolder builds.

By the close, folders in hand, the group gathered at the flower-draped table for the certificate photographs, five and six at a time, the red installation still standing behind them.

The location

Dubai, United Arab Emirates — the Lacy Bird studio and academy.

The three days

Every touring edition runs the same Lacy Bird programme, rebuilt around the local market's flowers:

  • Day one — colour theory and the house palette, the composition system, the boxed arrangement and the round commercial bouquet.
  • Day two — the spreading bouquet, wrapping and presentation, and a professional photoshoot of every participant's finished work.
  • Day three — large-scale event decor and installation, the business of floristry, and certificates.
