20–22 June 2025 — Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — our Malaysian home crowd — twice sold out. The edition sold out.

For three days last June, our Malaysian home crowd gathered under one of the more theatrical roofs we have ever taught beneath: a glass A-frame hall in Kuala Lumpur, its white beams climbing to a ridge of pure blue sky, marble underfoot polished to a mirror. Twice sold out, the room filled quickly and easily, in the unhurried way of a crowd that already feels like family. At its heart stood the installation everyone had come to build around — vast fans of gilded, dried palm opening like sunbursts on wire frames, threaded through with cream roses, blush stems and white orchids, banked at the base with clouds of gypsophila and pale garden roses.

The teaching flowers, by contrast, were unafraid of colour. Where the palm piece stayed soft and golden, the arrangements the class carried out leaned bold: sky-blue hydrangea shouldering up against orange gerbera and the flickering flame of gloriosa lily, spires of pale delphinium, buttery lisianthus and pink gerbera set beside peach roses and a fat white pompon of hydrangea. Some went into the academy's own boxes, others into loose hand-tied bundles in frosted wrap.

You could watch the work steady over the three days — the kneeling among cut greenery, the deciding, a white rose lifted up to the glass just to see it against the sky. It closed the way these editions always hope to: the whole cohort seated together on the marble among the gypsophila, navy Lacy Bird Academy folders in hand, against the golden sunburst they had made themselves.

The location

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — the twice-sold-out Malaysian edition.

The three days

Every touring edition runs the same Lacy Bird programme, rebuilt around the local market's flowers:

  • Day one — colour theory and the house palette, the composition system, the boxed arrangement and the round commercial bouquet.
  • Day two — the spreading bouquet, wrapping and presentation, and a professional photoshoot of every participant's finished work.
  • Day three — large-scale event decor and installation, the business of floristry, and certificates.
