Bucharest Masterclass — 21–23 February 2025
Lacy Bird touring masterclass in Bucharest, Romania — 21–23 February 2025. Event page: programme, photos and materials from this edition.
21–23 February 2025 — Bucharest, Romania — our Eastern European anchor city.
Bucharest is where the tour puts down roots each winter, and in late February the academy took a plaster-walled room with arched alcoves, a travertine floor and, at its heart, a stone fireplace. Over three days that mantel became the signature piece: a garland that ran the full length of the hearth in blush and toffee roses, amber cymbidium, cream carnation and rust, with strands of pale amaranthus trailing down toward a bank of candles and a drift of blue delphinium banked at the floor. It was a palette that refused to sit still, warm caramels answered by cool violet-blues.
The room itself was quiet and considered — sculptural paper pendants overhead, bare branches threaded along the walls, cross-back chairs pulled into rows with the blue Academy totes hung from their backs. Students worked through the full grammar of the craft, from a footed compote of dusty roses, garden roses and pears set on a terracotta-draped table, to hand-tied bouquets bound in frosted paper and ribbon, each one balancing butter-yellow English roses against powder-blue delphinium and spidery pink gerbera.
Between the large work came the small studies that stay with you: a single peach rose opening at its centre, the freckled throat of a blush orchid caught up close. The three days closed as they always do, a handful of graduates gathered by the dried-flower wall, blue certificate folders in hand, standing where the caramel and lavender met the light.

Bucharest, Romania — the academy's Eastern European home.
The three days
Every touring edition runs the same Lacy Bird programme, rebuilt around the local market's flowers:
- Day one — colour theory and the house palette, the composition system, the boxed arrangement and the round commercial bouquet.
- Day two — the spreading bouquet, wrapping and presentation, and a professional photoshoot of every participant's finished work.
- Day three — large-scale event decor and installation, the business of floristry, and certificates.
