29 June – 1 July 2024 — Seoul, South Korea — one of the most design-literate flower markets in the world.
Seoul in early summer is a demanding place to bring flowers, home to one of the most design-literate markets in the world, and the studio the class settled into for three days answered in kind: a white-walled loft with a bare concrete floor, an open staircase and tall industrial windows, folding chairs pulled up to trestle tables. On the first morning the room was all reconnaissance, coffees and phones out, everyone reading the space and the buckets before anyone touched a stem.
The palette that emerged leaned soft but never sweet. Pale pink gerbera and cream chrysanthemums ran into butter-yellow pompons and drifts of dried, smoke-grey grass, built up on a run of white plinths into a stepped installation that spilled colour from pink down through yellow to the floor. Against that gentleness the class kept reaching for edge: acid-green anthurium, flame-tipped gloriosa, orange gerbera and rusty dahlias wired into bouquets that read fresh and slightly wild. There were quieter studies too, a compact box arrangement of coral roses, blue hydrangea and delphinium held like something breakable.
Most of the work happened in the hush of hands, the instructor moving between tables, pale spray chrysanthemums passing from her fingers to a student's. Wrapped in frosted paper and the academy's own ribbon, the finished bouquets went out into the summer light.
It closed as these editions do, warmly and without ceremony. The group gathered on the cobbles beneath a wall of ivy, matching bouquets held to their chests, then back inside for certificates in front of a low sweep of gerbera and dried bloom, blue folders in hand, three days lighter and a craft heavier.

The three days
Every touring edition runs the same Lacy Bird programme, rebuilt around the local market's flowers:
- Day one — colour theory and the house palette, the composition system, the boxed arrangement and the round commercial bouquet.
- Day two — the spreading bouquet, wrapping and presentation, and a professional photoshoot of every participant's finished work.
- Day three — large-scale event decor and installation, the business of floristry, and certificates.
