Vase life is set before the flowers reach the water, so at the shop choose firm stems with no limp patches, fresh green foliage without yellowing, and a clean cut end with no slime or sour smell at the water line.

Conditioning, step by step
Cut spikes when about a third of the florets have opened. Remove lower foliage and recut stems before placing in warm water with flower food. Keep the flowers in a cool spot out of direct sun. Change the water every couple of days to maximize their life.
